Arsenal transfer round-up: Mikel Arteta offers update as Gunners prepare Kieran Trippier bid

Arsenal could be a team to watch in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

Mikel Arteta’s side have already seen three players arrive, with Nuno Tavares, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Ben White signing on the dotted line.

But there could be a lot more activity before the end of the month, with the Gunners on the lookout for a number of positions.

It is understood that Arteta would like to sign another goalkeeper, a full-back, a creative midfielder and a striker as he plots a charge to re-enter the top-four race.

There could also be a number of outgoings with the manager having proved he has a ruthless streak when it comes to revamping his squad.

With that in mind, here are the latest Arsenal transfer rumours:

Arteta drops transfer hint

The Arsenal manager has admitted that he is still trying to improve the squad with less than a month of the window remaining.

So far, the Gunners have spent more than £75m in bringing in their first three arrivals, but Arteta is hopeful that there could yet be further reinforcements.

Speaking after their final pre-season friendly he said: “I don't know what will happen. Again I repeat myself. We train with the players we have available.

“We try to do the right things to improve the team in the areas that are needed. At the moment we came so far and there's still a window that is open.”

Arsenal prepare Trippier bid

The Gunners are preparing to hijack Manchester United ’s move for England star Kieran Trippier.

United have been heavily linked with the Atletico Madrid right-back, with the former Spurs star open to a Premier League return.

However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have been unable to meet the Spaniards’ valuation of £34m, leaving the door open for Arsenal to steal a march.

The Sun claim that Emirates bosses have sounded out Atleti officials and could be set to make an opening bid in excess of £20m.

Arteta is keen to bring in a new right-sided defender with Hector Bellerin destined to complete his exit before the end of the month.

Willock for Aouar would be ‘good business’

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell believes it would be sound business if his old club sold Joe Willock in order to fund a move for Houssem Aouar.

Willock is reportedly closing in on a move to Newcastle, which could free up the cash to land the Lyon star.

Aouar has long been on Arsenal’s radar and he could be available for a cut-price fee thanks to the French club’s financial woes.

And Campbell thinks it would be a good decision to allow Willock to leave - on the proviso that money is spent on a replacement.

“I thought we were going to get Aouar last season,” Campbell told the Highbury squad. “The question on Houssem Aouar isn’t against Willock.

“It should be Aouar or Odegaard or Maddison or Bernando Silva? I think Aouar at £25 million.

“If you say, we are going to sell Willock for £25m and bring in Aouar for the same money then you say that’s good business.”
