Arsenal transfer round-up: Midfield boost emerges, Gunners join five-way race for winger

With only four Premier League fixtures remaining, attention will soon turn to the summer transfer window.

It could prove to be a decisive period for Mikel Arteta as Arsenal look to close the gap to the top four next campaign.

Attracting new faces to the Emirates Stadium could prove challenging, but there is no doubting that change is needed at the club.

The ongoing effects of the coronavirus pandemic will mean many clubs are restricted in their efforts to improve, with Arsenal among those.

Mirror Sport have taken a look at the latest gossip, with updates provided on the Gunners’ latest targets.

Arsenal close in on Rodriguez

Arsenal are understood to be nearing a deal for Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez.

Arteta is said to have identified the 27-year-old as his top target for the summer transfer window and are one of the clubs interested in recruiting Rodriguez.

The Argentinian midfielder has release clause of £69.5million, but Spanish publication Estadio Deportivo have claimed that Betis’ financial problems will see them forced into selling one of their star players in the summer.

Dani Cellbaos is expected to return to Real Madrid this summer and Thomas Partey struggling to stay fit, this could prove to be an inspired purchase.

Gunners join 'five-way race' for winger

Arsenal are chasing the services of Wolfsburg winger Josip Brekalo, alongside Liverpool, Atletico Madrid, Roma and AC Milan.

The 22-year-old has helped his side challenge for a Champions League place in the Bundesliga this term and it appears only a matter of time before he is on the move.

Brekalo registered a respectable seven goals and seven assists last campaign and has four goals and three assists to his name this term.

Despite a slight reduction in productivity, Italian outlet CalcioMercato claim that some of Europe's biggest clubs are interested in the Croatian.

Championship star being tracked

Though Derby County are facing a battle to remain in the Championship, Arsenal are rumoured to be eyeing one of Wayne Rooney's players.

In a bid to provide greater cover for Kieran Tierney, the Gunners are monitoring Derby left-back Lee Buchanan according to the Daily Mail.

The 20-year-old is a product of the Rams' academy system and has succesfully completed the jump to the first-team.

Granit Xhaka has been covering for the injured Tierney, which has been a far from ideal situation for the club.
