Arsenal transfer round-up: Gunners target 'contacted' amid three-way Celik battle

It's been a season to forget for Arsenal - but will it be a summer to remember?

Missing out on Europa League football was a bitter blow to the club's chances of attracting the world's elite players, but the bright lights of London still carry plenty of pulling power for prospective recruits.

Arsenal's board have also backed Mikel Arteta and are prepared to support him in the transfer market this summer as he sets his sights on several targets.

Re-signing Martin Odegaard, either on loan or permanently, remains one of Arteta's key concerns, while reports claim he could be lining up a replacement for Bernd Leno in the form of Ajax stopper Andre Onana.

But the Gunners' boss is keen to bolster his squad in other areas, too.

Here is the latest Arsenal gossip doing the rounds.

Tapsoba 'contacted'

Arsenal's hopes of signing Bayer Leverkusen's Edmond Tapsoba look to be fading amid reports the midfielder has been contacted by their Premier League rivals.

SportBild claim (via Metro ) the Gunners are tracking the 22-year-old centre-back with a view to making a move this summer.

But Arsenal's failure to secure a place in Europe appears to have ended any chances of snapping up Tapsoba, who prefers a switch to Chelsea or Man Utd - both of whom have made enquiries.

However, one potential saving grace could be the suggestion that neither United nor Chelsea will make a bid until next year, opening the door to other clubs in the coming months.

Gunners in Celik battle

Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham have all entered a transfer tussle for Lille right-back Zeki Celik with the summer transfer window opening next week.

Celik starred for Lille this season, becoming their first-choice right-back as they made a shock title challenge to win Ligue 1 for the first time in a decade.

But Les Dogues are set for a total squad rebuild after new owners took over, with title-winning manager Christophe Galtier departing at the end of the season.

Celik appears set to follow Galtier out of the exit door, with the Turkish international now attracting interest from clubs across Europe.

The Evening Standard report that three of those teams chasing his signature are Arsenal, United and Spurs, with the Premier League rivals all “monitoring” the 24-year-old.

Bissouma alternative 'identified'

Brighton can afford to demand a big fee for midfielder Yves Bissouma amid the heightened interest in their star.

But with his cost expected to top £40million, Arsenal could well seek out a cheaper alternative.

And according to Belgian outlet Nieuwsblad, they may well have found one.

Arsenal failed in their approach to sign Anderlecht star Albert Sambi Lokonga two years ago, but could now be willing to make a return effort to prise him away to the Emirates.
