Arsenal transfer round up: Gabriel Magalhaes plea, Arteta coy on Partey, Aubameyang latest

There’s big pressure on the Gunners to strengthen this summer after losing their last two matches, with new names linked every day.

With Arsenal restarting their Premier League campaign with back-to-back defeats, the pressure has been ramped up on the board to deliver big signings this summer.

It remains to be seen exactly where Mikel Arteta would most like to strengthen as he attempts to mould the Gunners squad in his image when the transfer window opens, but there’s plenty of speculation about who he might target.

There’s plenty of work to be done as it appears extremely unlikely the club will secure Champions League football next season, but while there are plenty of new signings suggested, there are also reports linking some of their most important players with moves away.

Here are the latest Arsenal transfer rumours.

Gunners ‘target’ Gabriel Magalhaes keen on Premier League switch

Arsenal-linked Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes has given a new interview in the French media suggesting that he’d be open to a move to England this summer.

The 22-year-old Brazilian centre-half is valued in the region of £30m and is also reportedly targeted by Everton and Napoli.

“It is gratifying because there are a lot of teams talking about me,” he told L’Equipe (via Metro).

“On the internet, on social networks, there are a lot of things coming out. I do not know what is true. I see every day, ‘Ah Gabriel goes there, then there’

“But in fact, we don’t know yet where I’m going to go. Wherever I go it will be to play, to be at the top, at the highest level. Above all in a team that will allow me to go to the Selecao [Brazilian national team].”

Arteta remains coy on Thomas Partey

Gunners head coach Mikel Arteta was tight-lipped when asked about the possibility of completing the signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey amid strong speculation he’ll move to The Emirates this summer.

But the Spaniard couldn’t help but give a wry smile when giving an answer in his latest press conference.

"At the moment, just to predict what is going to happen in the transfer window is impossible,” Arteta said (via The Sun).

"You can see one or two clubs doing these sorts of deals, but the rest are really, really quiet.

"As I told, we have to assess the financial situation and whether we have a very narrow gap or a bigger gap to do any deals.

"So I think we are going to have to wait another four to six weeks to see what we are able to do.”

Partey has a release clause of £45million and Atletico are said to be already looking for replacements.

Another European powerhouse targets Aubameyang

Arsenal already have their work cut out to keep key man and top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the club this summer, and it could become yet more difficult as Juventus have become the latest European giants said to be interested.

Barcelona and Inter Milan have frequently been linked with making a move for the Gabon international striker this summer, but the perennial Serie A champions could give them competition, according to French outlet Le10Sport.

The report suggests that their interest is still some way off making the Gunners a concrete offer, but they’re sounding out what he would potentially cost.
