Arsenal transfer round-up: Four-man striker shortlist emerges amid Pepe 'pursuit'

Arsenal continue their surge for a top four finish on the field with three games remaining of the season, but off it, there is plenty of activity going on behind the scenes as they prepare for a busy summer transfer window at the end of the campaign.

The main talking point for the Gunners this year is the imminent arrival of a new striker, as there remain doubts over the futures of Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette, while Mikel Arteta is hopeful of bringing in another Pepe to the side - but the one from Porto.

There is plenty of work ahead for Arsenal, so Mirror Football takes a look at all of the latest transfer news from the Emirates Stadium…

Arsenal’s four-man striker shortlist

After failing to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubmeyang in January, a proven goalscorer is a must for Arsenal next season, and coupled with the potential departures of both Nketiah and Lacazette this summer, there will be a host of names who are linked with a move to the club.

Therefore, Arsenal have drawn up a four-man striker shortlist in the event that both strikers end up leaving, and have looked at Everton ’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins and Benfica striker Darwin Nunez.

However, if they keep hold of Nketiah they would only move for one striker in the transfer window, with Manchester City ’s Gabriel Jesus the primary target as things stand, while Erling Haaland ’s arrival from Borussia Dortmund could convince him that now is the time to move on.

Another Pepe ‘pursued’

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Porto star Pepe, according to Portuguese newspaper A Bola. Arteta has been monitoring his progress at Porto and is weighing up a move for the Brazilian winger, who has impressed this season after scoring six goals and providing five assists in all competitions to help Porto win the league title.

Pepe joined the two-time European Cup winners ahead of the current season after helping Gremio win four consecutive Brazilian titles, although he is yet to win a senior cap at international level. His existing deal doesn't expire until June 2026, yet Arsenal can release him from that by triggering his reported €60m clause (around £51.3m).

If the Gunners complete a deal for Pepe, he will be the second Pepe in their squad after Nicolas Pepe. Arsenal paid Lille £72million for the Ivory Coast international, 26, in the summer of 2019 - but he's struggled to justify his price tag in the years since.

Tielemans transfer requirement

Leicester midfield star Youri Tielemans has emerged as a key summer target for Arsenal, who are competing with Manchester United for the Belgian playmaker's signature.

The 25-year-old is due to be a free agent next summer - but the Foxes will demand a sum of £30million to allow the midfield maestro to depart this summer, rather than risk losing him for nothing. Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers was resigned to losing Tielemans when speaking about his player back in January.

"He is at an age and at a stage in his contract where he has to ensure he looks at every option," Rodgers said. "I would love it to be here at Leicester, that is natural, but I understand it's a very short career. For players it's about ambition, the challenge and sometimes it's about a different environment. We have seen it before many times."

Yet according to HBVL, qualifying for the Champions League is essential if Arsenal want to prise Tielemans to North London.
