Arsenal transfer round-up: Aubameyang's uncertain future as budget set aside for forward

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta will be preparing his side for the upcoming relentless festive period schedule.

The Gunners will play host to West Ham on Wednesday and Arteta will be hoping for more of the same after Saturday's comfortable 3-0 win over Southampton at the Emirates.

But with the January transfer window set to open in just over two weeks' time, Arteta will no doubt also have one eye on that.

Arsenal splashed the cash in the summer and several names continue to be linked with moves to and from north London.

Getting back into the Champions League will be a priority for the club this season and they may be forced to spend further next month if they are to clinch a spot in Europe's premier club competition.

Here, Mirror Football brings you the latest transfer gossip from the Emirates.

Aubameyang's future uncertain

The future of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang looks increasingly uncertain after the forward was stripped of the club’s captaincy on Tuesday.

Aubameyang missed Saturday’s win over Southampton after a disciplinary breach and Arteta has confirmed he will also not be considered for Wednesday’s clash with West Ham.

The 32-year-old was linked with a move away from the Emirates in the summer and those rumours have already re-ignited.

Who do you think Arsenal should try and sign in January? Let us know in the comments section.

Earlier this month Spanish outlet Fichajes reported that LaLiga giants Barcelona and Real Madrid were in contention to strike a deal with Aubameyang.

Asked if Aubameyang would ever play for Arsenal again, Arteta said: "We need a bit of time.

"It needs a bit of time to heal. For now he's not involved in the squad."

Vlahovic latest

Arsenal have reportedly set aside a ‘huge’ portion of their transfer budget to enable them to fund the transfer of Fiorentina forward Dusan Vlahovic.

That’s according to Italian outlet Gazetta, who say the Gunners have done so, as they prepare to try and sign the Serbia forward in the upcoming window.

Countless rumours continue to link the highly-rated striker with a move to the Emirates and La Viola are said to be demanding a fee of £85million for their star man.

Recent reports have indicated that Vlahovic is not keen on joining Arsenal and instead favours a move elsewhere.

Vlahovic is the top scorer in Serie A with 15 goals and scored twice on Saturday as his side cruised to a 4-0 win over Salernitana.

West Ham eye defender

David Moyes’ West Ham are said to be keen on a move to sign Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos.

German outlet Bild, via Sport Witness say the on-loan Stuttgart defender has caught the eye of the Hammers.

The same report states that Stuttgart have the option to buy the central defender for just £2.5m, but they then may chose to sell him on for a profit of more than £20m.

But the Hammers will reportedly have to battle with German giants Borussia Dortmund, and Newcastle for the defender’s signature.

After just seven appearances in his first two seasons at Arsenal, the Greek defender has enjoyed loan spells at both FC Nurnberg and Stuttgart in order to gain valuable first-team experience.

The 24-year-old has made 15 appearances so far this term for Stuttgart, and has scored five times.
