Arsenal transfer round-up: Arteta given Tielemans boost as Gunners move gets green light

Arsenal enjoyed the perfect start to the 2022/23 Premier League season away at Crystal Palace on the opening night under the white hot spotlight of Selhurst Park.

The Gunners proved they are able to be resilient as well as creative by digging in deep to register an important 2-0 win against the Eagles, courtesy of a Gabriel Martinelli header and a late Marc Guehi own goal. It was 2019 arrival William Saliba who earned the majority of the plaudits, with the Frenchman making his debut three years after he first arrived.

Despite the win, there are still question marks over whether Arsenal need further additions before the window closes later this month.

Mirror Football has analysed the latest transfer talking points surrounding the Gunners - including an update from the manager himself.

Arteta hints at transfer plans

The Gunners boss has already made some high-profile additions to his Arsenal squad so far, but sent out a statement to the club's top four rivals by insisting they are not done.

Two summer recruits were on the pitch and enjoying Arsenal debuts against Palace but there could be more by the time the Gunners are next in action against Leicester City on Saturday.

Pressed for comment on Arsenal's plans for the rest of the window, Arteta told Sky Sports: "We are going to try [to sign more players]. "If we can do them, great. But now it's work with the players we have, the focus should be with the players we have.

"You need the right balance because if you come short in terms of physicality in this game, you’re going to be exposed. The most important thing is to win the first match, to build confidence and momentum. Then you can talk about things we need to improve - there were quite a few today, to be honest."

Tielemans boost

Leciester City are rumoured to be plotting a surprise move for Lyon midfielder and former Arsenal target Houssem Aouar - which in turn could spark the departure of Youri Tielemans.

The Gunners have been linked with the Foxes star since the start of the window, with personal terms between the two parties thought to have been agreed some time ago.

The chances of Tielemans donning the Arsenal shirt before the window's close are further increased by the departure of the Gunners very own Lucas Torreira, who looks bound for Turkish giants Galatasary.

Both of the Torreira and Aouar updates have reportedly inspired Arsenal to prepare a formal offer to submit to the Leicester hierarchy as they try to pry Tielemans away from the King Power.

The Sun suggest that Arsenal's move for Tielemans is 'imminent', with the 25-year-old desperate to get the deal done.

Gunners get green light for Diaby

Arteta's desire to add another wide-forward to his squad has been well-documented ever since Arsenal tried and failed to sign current Barcelona star Raphinha from Leeds.

It has remained a mystery who was next up on their short-list ever since, but it looks as if their next target is finally clear - Bayer Leverkusen's Moussa Diaby.

Football Insider report that despite plenty of competition for his signature, the Gunners are confident they can persuade the 23-year-old French international the Emirates is the place to be.

Diaby has previously been linked with a move to the Premier League, with Newcastle United the main side reportedly keeping tabs on his situation with Leverkusen.

He has three years left to run on his current deal with the Bundesliga outfit, meaning Arsenal would have to fork out a figure close to £60m - something owner Stan Kroenke is rumoured to have given the green light.
