Arsenal transfer news: Petr Cech wants to remain at club and fight Bernd Leno for No 1 spot

Petr Cech has insisted he intends to remain at Arsenal and battle new signing Bernd Leno for the No 1 spot next season.

Cech turned 36 at the end of last season, with his performances being called into question after a number of high-profile errors, leading to new manager Unai Emery bringing in Leno as competition.

Emery is yet to announce which goalkeeper will be his first choice this season, although, perhaps tellingly, Cech finally moved to take the No 1 squad number having worn 33 throughout his time at the Emirates.

Cech had been linked with a move back to Chelsea, with his replacement at Stamford Bridge Thibaut Courtois set to join Real Madrid, but the he insisted he has taken no notice of this speculation.

“I have a contract with Arsenal,” he said. “I am concentrating on this season, on the competition between the goalkeepers because we have plenty of options.

“I'm doing my best to show to the manager that I can be in the starting line-up when the season starts. That's my aim and as for the speculation, I don't really follow it.”
