Arsenal defender Nuno Tavares is set to join Marseille on loan for the upcoming season.

The Gunners had previously been in talks with Atalanta earlier this week, but those discussions have now ended.

Instead an agreement with Marseille is now being finalised and Nuno is set to join them on loan for the season.

The move is expected to be a straight loan deal, with the 22-year-old hoping to get plenty of first-team action.

Nuno joined Arsenal last summer from Benfica and he made a few impressive performances in the first half of the season.

He struggled more in the latter half of the campaign and now faces a real fight for minutes after Arsenal signed Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City.

Zinchenko will fight for the left-back spot with Kieran Tierney and that has essentially left Nuno as third choice.

As well as Atalanta, Real Sociedad had also shown an interest in Nuno earlier this summer.
