Arsenal transfer news: Agent confirms move for Bernd Leno backup

Inter Milan's 22-year-old goalkeeper Ionut Radu has emerged as a potential target for Arsenal this summer as manager Unai Emery searches for a number two to deputise for Bernd Leno.

Now Radu's agent, Crescenzo Cecere, has claimed that the Gunners have been in contact.

But he has also revealed that they face competition from Lyon for his signature.

Cecere said: "There are so many teams interested, including Lyon. Recently, there was also a survey from Arsenal.

"He is a very interesting prospect since he is growing a lot, from all points of view."

With the long-serving Petr Cech retiring and David Ospina expected to join Napoli permanently following a successful loan spell, a backup goalkeeper is one of the priorities for Arsenal in the upcoming transfer window.

Cech had an unhappy ending to his Arsenal career when he was part of the side that were thrashed 4-1 in the final of the Europa League.

Ospina, meanwhile, has struggled to break into the first-team at the Emirates since his debut season in 2014-2015, and Emery clearly does not see him as a long-term solution.

Radu, who has won 13 caps for Romania U21s, joined Inter's youth team in 2013, but has still made just one appearance for the senior side, when he came on as a second-half substitute in a Serie A defeat to Sassuolo in 2016.

Since then he has been sent out on loan to Avellino and Genoa to gain some first-team experience, and he was a regular starter for Genoa this season, making 33 appearances in Serie A and keeping six clean sheets.

But with Antonio Conte taking the reigns at Inter, he is unlikely to be able to break into the senior team just yet.

It remains to be seen if Radu would favour a move to London, however, as he had previously said he would like to stay another season at Genoa to try to continue his development.
