Arsenal transfer latest: Gunners closing on Nuno Tavares deal as Matteo Guendouzi nears exit

Arsenal are hoping to wrap up the signing of Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares this week, with Matteo Guendouzi also closing in on a move away.

Tavares travelled to London over the weekend after the Gunners agreed a deal for the 21-year-old that could eventually be worth £8.5million.

The left-back is currently quarantining in the UK, as per Government guidelines.

Arsenal are hopeful they can complete Tavares’ move this week and he can join the squad for their pre-season trip to Scotland next week.

The Gunners are travelling to Scotland on Monday for games with Hibernian on Tuesday and Rangers on Saturday. Should things progress smoothly, Tavares will be part of the squad.

Guendouzi, meanwhile, is closing in on a move away from Arsenal after arriving in Marseille over the weekend.

The midfielder is due to join the French club on loan for the season, but with getable clauses that mean he will join them permanently for around £10m next summer.

Arsenal secured a similarly structured deal with Stuttgart for Konstantinos Mavropanos, who joined the German side on loan earlier this summer with a view to permeant switch.

A deal for Guendouzi is progressing well and could be completed in the next 48 hours.

Guendouzi posted a farwell message on Instagram on Monday, but he has since deleted it. In it he thanked Arsenal for all they did for him.

“Thanks to all of those who believed in me during my time here, during the good and the bad moments,” read part of the message.
