Arsenal transfer 'interest', fees, words of advice and the latest on Nottingham Forest's Joe Worrall

Nottingham Forest defender is the latest player to be linked with a move away from the City Ground.

The 22-year-old centre-back appears to have attracted interested from ahead of a potential move during the January transfer window.

Worrall has been in fine form for Sabri Lamouchi’s Reds this season, featuring in all 16 of their league fixtures so far.

The Nigel Doughty Academy graduate also captained the Reds for their Carabao Cup ties against Fleetwood Town and Derby County, but he did not feature in the third round clash against the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium in September.

So how likely is a move for Worrall when the transfer window reopens in the new year? Here is the latest on the latest City Ground transfer story.

Who is leading the interest?

According to Football Insider, the Gunners are in the market for a new centre-back in the January transfer window, and have identified Worrall as a potential target.

The report adds that Arsenal will have scouts in attendance for Forest’s Sky Bet Championship fixture against Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday night in order to watch Worrall in action.

It is being claimed that Arsenal could make a move for the 22-year-old when the transfer window opens in the New Year.

What Lamouchi has said on January

After defender Alexander Milosevic left the club "by mutual consent" in October, the Forest boss was asked whether that departure could free up space in the squad or funds for the January window.

Discussing January plans, Lamouchi said at the time: "You are talking about the next window.

“We have 11 or 12 games to play until then, so I just want to focus on Luton (who were the club’s next opponents).”

Words of advice

Reds legend Garry Birtles has offered Worrall some advice amid the link to the Gunners.

“If I could give them one piece of advice it would be to ignore any rumours about their future and just get their heads down.

“That's what has brought them so much success this season so they should carry on just as they have been.

“If you start getting above yourself then that's where you come undone.

“Neither player strikes me as someone who will lose their way.

“Worrall know what it is like to be at a low ebb. It's not too long ago that he could not get in the Forest team and he was shipped out on loan the Rangers.

“That is an experience that will have served him really well. Playing at a massive club like Rangers can only toughen you up.

“He strikes me as a leader in the dressing room despite being 22 and we know how much he loves the club as a boyhood Forest fan.
