Arsenal transfer chiefs make appeal to owner Stan Kroenke during internal talks

Arsenal are reportedly holding internal talks about the possibility of increasing their summer transfer budget.

Due to a failure to qualify for next season's Champions League it was rumoured the Gunners were only permitted to spend around £45m on new players during this window.

But according to the Daily Mail those in charge of transfers will make a plea to owner Stan Kroenke for extra cash so that they have a better chance of signing unsettled forward Wilfried Zaha.

The Crystal Palace player is said to want a move away from Selhurst Park this summer , with Arsenal his first choice as they were the club he supported as a child.

But the Eagles value Zaha at £80m, a price currently way out of Arsenal's reach. Their opening bid of £40m was met by derision by Palace and instantly rejected.

Palace chairman Steve Parish has assured Zaha he will not stand in the way of a move from the club, but wants to receive a transfer fee that reflects Zaha's value in the market, which Parish believes is a good deal more than Arsenal's initial offer.

With Aaron Wan-Bissaka having been sold to Manchester United for £50m, Palace also do not have a desperate need for money, and are in a strong position going into negotiations.

Manager Unai Emery also wants to strengthen at the back, and has so far been unsuccessful in bids for the likes of Celtic's Kieran Tierney and Sampdoria's Joachim Andersen.

There is a growing feeling around the club that they will again struggle to qualify for Europe's elite competition next season unless they strengthen before the upcoming campaign.

Rivals such as Manchester City , Manchester United and Tottenham have all already made new signings, and Arsenal are in danger of being left behind unless Kroenke decides to splash the cash soon.
