Arsenal transfer target Christopher Nkunku missed the decisive penalty as PSG were denied in the French Cup final.
The Ligue 1 giants led 2-0 at the Stade de France after just 21 minutes but Rennes hit back to take the tie to extra-time after a late red card for Kylian Mbappe.
Neither side could find a goal in the added 30 minutes and the tie went to penalties.
Each side scored all five of their spot kicks and Ismael Sarr put Rennes 6-5 up before Nkunku blazed over.
The 21-year-old was heavily linked with Arsenal in January and he remains on Unai Emery's radar.
