Arsenal, Tottenham and Man United receive Champions League boost after latest Leicester injury

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Jamie Vardy will be out for three to four weeks with a hamstring injury.

The Englishman first felt the injury in the Foxes' Carabao Cup quarter-final loss to Liverpool last week, but he has since aggravated it, with a scan showing bad news.

Although he missed Leicester's 6-3 Boxing Day defeat to Manchester City in order to rest the injury, the 34-year-old started against Liverpool in the Premier League on Tuesday and felt pain towards the end of that 1-0 win.

As relayed by our colleagues at Leicestershire Live, Rodgers said: "Jamie [Vardy] will be out for the weekend and James Maddison should be fine."

When asked how long it will take for him to recover, the Northern Irishman replied: "Depends.

"It could be the next 3-4 weeks."

Although Leicester currently sit ninth in the Premier League after 18 games, they're very much in the thick of the competition for European places.

Although they're 10 points behind fourth placed Arsenal, the Foxes have played one game less than the Gunners and can reduce that deficit to just seven points with a win in their game in hand.

With seven European spots up for grabs this season, Leicester will fancy their chances to secure one of those positions, and even have an outside chance of registering Champions League football.

No club wishes injuries on anyone, but their competitors, including the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, West Ham and Manchester United have inadvertently been handed a boost in their pursuit of a European spot.

Vardy has found the net nine times in the Premier League so far this season. Losing your best goalscorer for at least two games - perhaps even more - is a considerable worry for any team, and Leicester will have to find a way to adapt to the issue in January.
