Arsenal told what they'll need to do to improve David Luiz's performances

Arsenal will need to employ a specialist coach to work alongside David Luiz in order to get the best out of the Brazilian, according to Gunners legend Martin Keown.

Luiz's has got off to something of an inauspicious start since his move from Chelsea to the Emirates Stadium this summer, and was twice caught out by Mohamed Salah in the Gunners' 3-1 loss at Liverpool last weekend.

In the first half of Sunday's North London derby against Tottenham , after Harry Kane had beaten both Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Grant Xhaka in the air, Luiz was sucked into a challenge by Heung-min Son, only to miss the ball as the South Korean broke away.

The attack eventually led to Bernd Leno spilling an Erik Lamela effort, and Christian Eriksen tapped in the rebound.

Writing for the Mail Online on Saturday, former Arsenal defender Keown outlined what his former side will need to do to see Luiz improve.

"David Luiz needs one-on-one work with a defensive coach. That is what I would do if I was on the staff at Arsenal ," said Keown.

"Luiz is 32 but you are never too old to learn. When Arsenal signed the Brazilian from Chelsea , I feared it would come back to bite them. That is what happened at Anfield last week.

"Liability Luiz gave away a cheap penalty by pulling on Mohamed Salah’s shirt. He failed to anticipate the movement of the Egyptian, then his ego caused him to tug back Salah rather than wait to see if the Liverpool man would score.

"Later, he was made to look foolish on the wing by the same man. Luiz could not foul Salah because he had already been booked for giving away the spot-kick. But he committed, he went for the ball, it was all or nothing, and he got zilch. Salah skipped by him and scored.

"Luiz dealt with that situation all wrong and this has long been a habit."
