Arsenal told they cannot attract big-name manager in current state amid Carlo Ancelotti link

Sky Sports pundit Graeme Souness is not convinced that Carlo Ancelotti would be tempted by a job at Arsenal after he was sacked from his role at Serie A side Napoli.

The veteran manager left the club just hours after his side beat Genk 4-0 in the Champions League, but prior to that Napoli were on a nine-match run without victory in all competitions.

Ancelotti is widely regarded as one of the most successful managers of all time, having won a total of 20 trophies with six different clubs, including three Champions League titles.

But speaking to Virgin Sport Media , Souness said he doesn't think the Arsenal job would appeal to the Italian.

"Would the big (managers) take Arsenal at the moment? I'm not so sure," Souness said.

"I think (Ancelotti) is a big manager and if you look at the jobs he's had- Real Madrid , PSG, Chelsea - you know Arsenal are a fabulous club, but right now it's a difficult job, whoever gets it."

Everton are also being linked with Ancelotti, who already has experience in England after he took charge of Chelsea from 2009-2011, winning a Premier League title and FA Cup in his time at Stamford Bridge.

The Gunners have been linked with a whole host of managers following the departure of Unai Emery last month, and it is believed they could interview up to at least 10 candidates before making a final decision.

Despite Souness' views, Ancelotti is now among the favourites for the job, along with former Arsenal players Mikel Arteta and Patrick Vieira, current interim boss Freddie Ljungberg and former Milan manager Massimiliano Allegri.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal will have a new man in charge before their next Premier League game, which is a tricky home match against Manchester City on Sunday.
