Arsenal told Nuno Tavares asking price as star makes dream transfer move clear

Arsenal have been told that it would take a bid of at least €15million (£12.8million) to take Benfica left-back Nuno Tavares to the Emirates Stadium this summer.

The Gunners are reportedly interested in the Portuguese defender ahead of a potential switch, with Edu and Mikel Arteta keen to add competition for Kieran Tierney at left-back after the Scotland international signed a new long-term contract with the club last week.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal are already in direct contact with the players’ agents concerning a move.

Meanwhile, the Portuguese is apparently keen on a move to North London with a Premier League switch apparently his "dream", meaning personal terms should not be an issue.

This would only leave the Gunners agreeing a fee with his current employers Benfica, who are reportedly asking for €15million-€17million (£12.8million-£14.5million) amid interest from Arsenal but also Serie A giants Napoli and Lazio.

Mikel Arteta’s men could well do with a new left-back heading into the 2021/22 season.

Despite Kieran Tierney having penned a new deal at the Emirates Stadium, he could be the only natural left-sided defender ahead of next campaign.

Sead Kolasinac looks unlikely to have a future at the club and football.london understands that Lazio and Fenerbahce are interested in the former FC Schalke man.

Elsewhere, both Granit Xhaka and Bukayo Saka have deputised at left-back in the past but neither seem viable long-term options for the position. The former is close to a move to AS Roma, whilst the England man is far more effective in an advanced attacking position.

Tavares could well be the ideal arrival having burst onto the scene with Benfica during the 2019/20 season.

The 21-year-old has gone on to make 41 appearances for the Portuguese powerhouses and has three years left to run on his contract at the Estadio da Luz.

He actually appeared against Arsenal last season, being afforded a substitute appearance in the UEFA Europa League last-32 tie at the Emirates Stadium.
