Arsenal to surprise thousands of fans with phone calls from players and club legends

Arsenal are planning to surprise thousands of supporters with phone calls from current players and club legends during the coronavirus pandemic.

The club's has launched an ongoing campaign to check-in on supporters during the lockdown, starting with those over 80 or with existing health conditions.

A number of current players have already recorded video messages for supporters, NHS staff at the The Whittington Hospital – near the Emirates Stadium – and key workers.

A host of club legends are also taking part, with Pat Rice, Lee Dixon, Brendan Batson, Kevin Campbell, Terry Neill, Michael Thomas and Bob Wilson among those to have recorded personal video messages for fans during the crisis.

Over the coming weeks, the club is hoping reach around 3,500 supporters.

Former Arsenal captain Tony Adams has also become the latest figure in sport to send a personal video message to hero NHS fundraiser Captain Tom Moore, who turns 100 today.

Captain Moore's fundraising total is closing in on £30m and he has received a host of messages, including from England captain Harry Kane and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
