Arsenal to speak with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang after alleged Covid-19 lockdown breach

Arsenal are investigating a possible breach of coronavirus lockdown rules by striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

That is according to a report by The Sun, who claim the striker has breached the current regulations in place to get a new tattoo on his left hand.

Aubameyang, who scored a hat-trick to help Arsenal defeat Leeds United 4-2 at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon, lifting the Gunners above Leeds in the table in the process, has been pictured showing off his new tattoo on the Instagram account of Spanish tattoo artist Alejandro Nicolas Bernal.

It is reported that the footage was posted online just days after the striker had been given time off by the club to visit his mother, who was ill, in France.

With the UK still under a strict national lockdown, forcing non-essential retail and hospitality to keep their doors closed, all mobile and static tattoo parlours must also remain shut.

However, in the footage that has been shared, neither Aubameyang or Bernal, who is based in Barcelona, were wearing a mask during the process of the tattoo being completed.

The report states that it is not clear when or where the work was completed but the footage of was posted five days ago on the account named 'alexink8.' The report also claims that the tattoo was completed in an industrial area.

Arsenal are now wanting to find out if their club captain has compromised their biosecure bubble.

An Arsenal spokesman said last night: “We will speak to the player about this matter and establish what has taken place.”

During his absence, Aubameyang missed three Premier League matches - the FA Cup defeat to Southampton and Premier League tussles with the Saints and Manchester United.

After stepping off the bench in the back-to-back away defeats against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Aston Villa, respectively, Aubameyang returned to the starting line-up against Leeds, taking up a central position at the expense of Alexandre Lacazette.

The striker, though, grasped his opportunity with both hands, of course, netting an impressive hat-trick to seal a return to winning ways for the Londoners.
