Arsenal to sell 11 players to fund Edu transfer plan as Mikel Arteta drops major hint

Arsenal have been hard at work on and off the pitch, enjoying a brilliant pre-season and signing five new players to join Mikel Arteta's squad.

Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira, Matt Turner and Marquinhos have all made the move to the Emirates Stadium with the Gunners splashing over £100million on transfer fees for the second successive summer. Arteta revealed that the north Londoners are still looking to complete more signings 'if the market allows' following the 6-0 win over Sevilla at the weekend.

There remains plenty of work for technical director Edu to complete before the summer transfer window deadline later this month, with the Gunners wanting to move on a number of fringe players. Bernd Leno, Lucas Torreira and Nicolas Pepe are all amongst those who have been linked with an exit from the Emirates Stadium this summer, as Arsenal look to trim down their squad ahead of the Premier League 2022/23 season.

Nuno Tavares and youngster Arthur Okonwko have already been allowed to leave the club on loan, joining Marseille and Crewe Alexandra respectively. The Gunners are looking to recoup funds for a number of players, with Leno looking likely to be the next player to leave the club.

Fulham have agreed an £8 million deal with Arsenal to sign the 30-year-old with a medical scheduled to take place this week. Following the arrivals of Aaron Ramsdale and Matt Turner in back-to-back summers, Leno has dropped down the pecking order in Arteta's squad and now looks set to move to the Cottagers ahead of the new season.

Talented striker Folarin Balogun also looks set to leave on loan with a deal being agreed with Ligue 1 side Stade Reims. Reims lost Hugo Ekitike to Paris Saint-Germain and look set to secure Balogun's services on a season-long loan deal, beating competition from the Premier League with the England under-21 international set to complete a medical this week.

Lucas Torreira has been heavily linked with a permanent return to Italy, whilst Hector Bellerin is hoping for a return to Real Betis after an enjoyable loan spell with the La Liga side last term. Nicolas Pepe has worked hard to break into Arteta's plans during pre-season, but the Gunners are prepared to suffer a huge loss on the Ivorian forward in an effort to free up wages for new signings and contract renewals for the likes of Bukayo Saka.

Pablo Mari, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Alex Runarsson and Reiss Nelson are also players the Gunners are willing to let go of this summer as Edu faces a busy end to the transfer window. As per The Sun, Arsenal fear that interested parties are waiting to complete deals late on in the window, in an effort to pressure the club to lower their asking price or risk keeping a bloated squad for the 2022/23 season and fail to secure more incoming signings.
