Arsenal are confident of wrapping up a deal for Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie before Monday night’s transfer deadline.
The versatile Ecuador international travelled to London on Sunday to undergo a medical and finalise an initial loan move to the Emirates Stadium.
The deal contains an option for a permanent £45million transfer next summer, which the Gunners are expected to activate.
Hincapie is not the only deal that Arsenal are hoping to complete on Deadline Day, with a number of players due to leave.

With Hincapie’s arrival, Jakub Kiwior is set to join Porto on a loan deal that will become permanent next summer.
The Poland international was left out of Mikel Arteta’s squad for the defeat by Liverpool on Sunday and is expected to complete his move before the 7pm BST deadline. The deal for Kiwior, once it’s made permanent next summer, is set to bank Arsenal around £23m.
Arsenal are also working on exits for Albert Sambi Lokonga, Fabio Vieira, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Reiss Nelson.
Lokonga looks set to join German side Hamburg, who are in advanced talks over a permanent deal for the midfielder. The Belgian is out of contract next summer and Arsenal are focused on finding him a full-time move, not a loan.
Nelson has attracted interest from Crystal Palace and Fulham, and his preference would be to stay in London. The winger has not played a single minute of football for Arsenal so far this term and spent last season on loan at Fulham.
Zinchenko, who is out of contract next summer, is a target for Marseille and is open to a fresh challenge.
Vieira has been a target for Stuttgart during the current transfer window and the German club are still keen to sign him. West Ham have also been linked with a move and Vieira is hungry to secure more regular opportunities.
