Arsenal to be without eight players for Leicester City Carabao Cup tie

Mikel Arteta will be unable to call upon the services of as many as eight players for Wednesday night's Carabao Cup clash against Leicester City.

The Gunners have had a fine start to the season, beating Liverpool on penalties in the Community Shield and winning two out of two at the start of their Premier League campaign with victories over Fulham and West Ham.

They will no doubt be desperate to keep the momentum going when they take on the in-form Foxes at the Emirates - but are facing something of an injury crisis.

None of the long-term absentees Calum Chambers, Pablo Mari, Gabriel Martinelli and Shkodran Mustafi have recovered in time for the match, although the update provided by Arsenal suggest Mari could be back by the end of the month.

There are also a number of more recent issues, with Kieran Tierney still out with a tight groin after he missed the win over the Hammers at the weekend.

The Scotland international is, however, aiming to resume full training by the end of the week.

Attacking midfielder Emile Smith Rowe, meanwhile, has injured his right shoulder in training. He is now out of the protective sling, but may not be able to return to full training for up to 10 days.

Completing the injury list are Sokratis and Cedric Soares, who are both suffering calf problems but are expected to resume full training later this week.

Arteta is expected to name a mix of first-team and reserve players for the game against Leicester, with his side having four days off following the match before their huge Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield next Monday.

The Gunners have not won the League Cup since 1993, and have only triumphed twice in the club's history.
