Arsenal to appoint key new backroom staff member on recommendation of Edu

Arsenal are believed to be close to finalising a deal to bring in Brazilian medic Bruno Mazziotti, who has a close relationship with their technical director Edu Gaspar.

The Gunners' previous head of physiotherapy, Chris Morgan, moved to Liverpool in the summer, and the club have been on the lookout for a replacement ever since.

Mazziotti has been working at PSG since 2018 but is now believed to be figuring out the terms of an exit from the French club.

And according to The Athletic he will join Arsenal as soon as his departure from PSG is finalised.

Mazziotti and Edu have worked together at both Brazilian side Corinthians and the Brazil national team, and it is thought that Edu has been keen to get his friend on board after being impressed with his work in the past.

The 42-year-old will add to the rapidly increasing Brazilian theme at Arsenal, with the likes of Edu as well as players Willian and Gabriel Magalhaes all having joined relatively recently.

Mazziotti has experience of working with some extremely high-profile players, such as Neymar, Thiago Silva and Ronaldo, and he is believed to be very highly rated by those who have been treated by him.

He allegedly had a big part to play in ensuring Neymar would be fit for the 2018 World Cup after the forward broke his metatarsal just four months before the tournament.

Despite it looking likely he would miss at least part of the tournament, Neymar ended up making it in time to play the opening game against Switzerland, and Mazziotti's influence is thought to have been a big reason why he was able to return ahead of schedule.

With Arsenal having regularly suffered injuries to key players over the past few seasons, it will be intriguing to see whether Mazziotti can stem the tide of issues when he arrives.
