Arsenal tipped to miss top four as Mikel Arteta is warned stars still "can't be trusted"

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been warned his players still cannot be trusted as they look to qualify for next season's Champions League.

The Gunners sit 10th in the Premier League but are just five points off fifth with a game in hand.

A fifth-placed finish would currently secure a spot at Europe's top table next term given Manchester City's two-year ban from European competition.

If City are successful in their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, places will revert back to the top four, with Arsenal currently eight points adrift of Chelsea , albeit with a game in hand.

But former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell claims his old club's inconsistency will make it difficult to qualify for the competition.

“Do you trust Arsenal? Because I’ll be honest, I don’t," he told AFTV. “It’s not negativity, it’s what I see.

“Let’s be honest, it’s what’s been going on for far too long. They’re not consistent. When the pressure’s on, they can’t rise to the occasion.

“I’d love to be proven wrong, I’d be the first one singing their praises, but I just don’t see it.

“Can they do it? Yes, they’ve got the ability. But the trust? It just isn’t there.”

Arsenal host West Ham at the Emirates on Saturday, and Arteta knows his side must register three points to stay in the hunt.

“Beat West Ham on Saturday and we are closer, that’s all I’m thinking because a few weeks ago it looked impossible," he said.

“We go game by game, that’s the only aim, start grabbing three points and we will have a chance in the last few games of the season.”
