Arsenal team news: Granit Xhaka and Mesut Ozil left at home for Europa League clash with Vitoria

Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka has been left out of the travellingsquad for Wednesday’s Europa League meeting with Vitoria.

Xhaka has not played for the club since an ugly altercation with his own fans during the 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace last month.

The Swiss international was jeered as he left the field, and reacted angrily, twice swearing at the Emirates crowd before storming straight down the tunnel. He then missed the EFL Cup penalty shootout loss against Liverpool and Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Wolves.

German midfielder Mesut Ozil has also been left out for the trip to Portugal, having forced his way back into Unai Emery’s plans over the past week, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who captained the side against Wolves in Xhaka’s absence, is also rested, along with David Luiz.

Reiss Nelson is back in the squad for the first time since the 1-1 draw with Manchester United at the end of September after recovering from an injury, leaving Emery’s squad with a clean bill of health.
