Arsenal target tipped to make move after friend drops major transfer hint

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Brazilian youngster Gabriel Martinelli - and it appears the move may be a done deal.

The teenager is expected to become Unai Emery's first summer signing in a £6m deal, with Brazilian website Globo Esporte claiming his current club, Ituano, will announce the deal soon.

He turned 18 last week, meaning he is now allowed to move to Europe and confirmation was expected once his birthday passed.

But it still seems the move is on, after Martinelli posted a photo with friends, one of whom reposted it on his own Instagram story with the caption: “Safe trip. God bless you, just progress for your life. We’ll be out there soon, God willing.”

The post suggests Martinelli will leave Brazil imminently to arrive in North London, where he is expected to start out in the Under 23s squad with a view to earning a spot in Unai Emery's first team plans.

The youngster burst onto the scene in the latest Campeonato Paulista, Sao Paolo's state championship, scoring six goals and providing three assists in 14 appearances.

He has been tracked by Manchester United and Barcelona but the Gunners are the ones desperate to hand him his European breakthrough following his 18th birthday.

It is believed the delay in announced his signing may be due to the news being saved for after July 1, when Arsenal officially switch over from Puma to Adidas and release their new kit.

The teenager is set to be a low-risk signing as Emery works on a tight budget with potential high reward as he has one eye on the future.

Martinelli is not the only talented young attacker on Emery's radar.

According to France Football, they are from AC Nancy after Paris Saint-Germain pulled out of the race to sign him.
