Arsenal target's girlfriend drops huge social media hint over transfer

Arsenal fans believe they could be about to land transfer target Markus Schubert - after a major hint from his girlfriend on social media.

The Dynamo Dresden goalkeeper, 21, is wanted by Arsenal to provide back-up to Bernd Leno after stalwart Petr Cech retired at the end of the season.

Reports from the Daily Mail suggested the move was dead with the Germany U21 international opting to head to Schalke instead of moving to the Premier League.

But his girlfriend has now fuelled speculation the move is happening after posting a picture on her Instagram story posing in an Arsenal shirt.

Eagle-eyed Gunners fans picked up the snaps, posted with the caption "fitting" and were under no doubts it meant Schubert and his girlfriend will soon be making the move to north London.

Schubert impressed in the German second tier with nine clean shirts in 31 games last season, with a scramble for his signature this summer as he is available on a free transfer.

He is likely to step up to either the Bundesliga or embark upon a new challenge in the Premier League, with his girlfriend's post suggesting the latter may be on the cards.

Schubert will arrive at the Emirates as competition for Leno, who impressed in his first season as the Gunners No.1.

The retirement of Cech, who has headed back to Chelsea in a sporting director role, and the imminent departure of David Ospina in a permanent switch to Napoli has created a void.

Schubert, who has represented Germany from U17 to U21 level, fits the bill with little risk on a free transfer with his contract in Dresden up.
