Arsenal target Houssem Aouar may have played final game for Lyon amid £50m transfer talk

Houssem Aouar may have played his final game for Olympique Lyon.

Aouar has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal this summer with a £50million deal mooted.

And as speculation intensifies, Aouar has been sent off for Lyon in their clash with Montpellier this evening.

As Montpellier defender Arnaud Souquet attempted to clear the ball from his own byline, Aouar came in with a challenge and his studs made contact across his opponent's shin.

Can Arsenal make top four?

The challenge was enough to see him sent for an early bath - or whatever post-match wash procedure is allowed in the coronavirus era.

Montpellier were one up at the time and they would go on to double their lead with Teji Svanier scoring his second of the evening. A Memphis Depay reply from the spot wasn't enough to save Lyon from defeat.

With speculation rife over Aouar's future, there is plenty of talk this evening that the appearance could be his last in a Lyon shirt.

Though, that will likely depend on the length of suspension he receives, as well as Arsenal's transfer efforts.

In Ligue 1, the league's disciplinary committee decide how many games red card recipients miss, but it is a minimum of one game.

That would mean Aouar will be out until at least September 27, when Lyon are set to face Lorient.
