Arsenal target Dayot Upamecano told to make major transfer decision on his RB Leipzig future

Arsenal target Dayot Upamecano has been urged to think carefully over whether he should leave RB Leipzig as Europe's top clubs puruse his signature.

Upamecano, 21, is out of contract in the summer of 2021 and as yet there has been little indication he will sign an extension with the Bundesliga side. Indeed some reports in Germany have stated that the French youth international has already decided to move on from the Red Bull Arena.

Barcelona and Real Madrid have both been linked with Upamecano, who has long been a target for Arsenal. The Gunners hierarchy discussed a move for the youngster last summer but did not ultimately match RB Leipzig's price tag, in excess of £70million.

With the end of his contract approaching Upamecano is expected to be available for a significantly reduced fee this summer although the transfer plans of Leipzig, along with every other club in Europe, have been thrown up in the air in light of the coronavirus pandemic sweeping the continent.

Sporting director Markus Krosche appeared to admit that Leipzig's hopes of retaining Upamecano were out of their hands but urged the young centre-back not to rush into any decisions that could have a major impact on his career in the long-term.

"This is a far reaching decision for a player. He should take his time with that", Krosche told Kicker.

"He has to be clear about exactly what he is going to do, how he sees his future.

"Maybe that has changed a bit as a result of the new situation [coronavirus]."

Upamecano has made 29 appearances for Leipzig this season and ranks fourth in the Bundesliga for successful defensive actions, loose ball duels won and ball recoveries.

He is expected to be among the targets Arsenal examine this summer as they hunt reinforcements at centre-back, with William Saliba set to join after spending a season on loan at William Saliba.
