Arsenal target Dayot Upamecano has agreement with RB Leipzig over summer transfer

RB Leipzig CEO Oliver Mintzlaff says the club have no plans to allow Arsenal target Dayot Upamecano to leave for free next summer.

The defender has been impressing in Germany and his form has attracted the attention of clubs from around Europe.

Arsenal have a long-term interest in Upamecano and had been alerted to the fact he would be available for free in 12 months’ time.

Leipzig, however, have no plans to let Upamecano run his contract down and have said the 21-year-old centre-back must sign a new deal or he will be sold this summer.

“Upa is an extremely important player for us and one of the most sought-after talents in his position,” Mintzlaff told Bild.

“One thing we can assure you of is that we have a very clear understanding with him and his agent that he will not be allowed to leave for free.

"We can’t afford that as a club.

“There are two options for him – he will either sign a contract extension or leave.

"I’m sure that we will know relatively quickly in which direction it goes.”
