Arsenal target Dayot Upamecano gives defiant response in face of transfer speculation

Arsenal target Dayot Upamecano has given a defiant response in face of transfer speculation over a possible move this summer.

The RB Leipzig centre-half has been linked with a summer move to Arsenal , while he is also reportedly on the radar of Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Tottenham .

Upamecano's contract with Leipzig expires in the summer of 2021, and he is not expected to sign a new deal with the Bundesliga title challengers.

However, the France Under-21s defender has a £50million release clause in his contract which would need to be triggered before Leipzig would agree to sell.

Upamecano has previously said he will make "the right decision" on his future at the end of this season.

But in his latest interview he attempted to shut down transfer talk, while acknowledging he was aware several clubs were interested in him.

“I feel very good at RB Leipzig," Upamecano said in an interview with Foot Mercato.

"I like my team-mates, the staff and my club. For the moment, I am still under contract until 2021. I am going to have to continue to train well and play matches.

"Even though I know that there are clubs that want me, that is certain, I am keeping my feet on the ground.

"We will discuss my future at the end of the season with my agents and my family."

Leipzig are currently second in the Bundesliga, two points behind leaders Bayern Munich, and are 1-0 up at the halfway stage of their Champions League last-16 tie against Tottenham.

And Upamecano insisted he is concentrating on helping the club achieve their ambitions this season before thinking about his future.

"I am at Leipzig and I want to reach the aims that the club has set," he said. "I do not want to talk about anything else at the moment."

He was also asked about speculation he could return to play in his native France, and said: "I want to finish the season with Leipzig and nothing else… I am French, my family lives in France, so of course one day I could (return to France). I see no reason why not to.”
