Arsenal 'take next step' in Dusan Vlahovic chase and identify £15m transfer alternative

Arsenal are set for a busy month of January, with Premier League fixtures coming alongside challenges in both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

Off the field, there's also plenty of work to be done in the transfer market and that could see both incoming and outgoing deals for Mikel Arteta's side.

A new striker and central midfielder are on the agenda for Arsenal to fill gaps within their squad and there's one man in particular who is the focus of attention.

Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic is a prime target for Arsenal and there's some encouraging reports today, as The Athletic's David Ornstein states the Gunners are 'leading' the chase for the Serbian ace.

The highly-rated forward is being courted by the likes of Juventus, Manchester United and Tottenham, amongst others, with a fierce fight developing in the battle for his services.

Arsenal have reportedly offered cash plus Lucas Torreira, on loan in Florence, for the forward but a deal may have to wait for the summer.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace have joined the hunt for FCSB forward Ianis Stoica after Arsenal saw a bid for the player turned down, PlaySport reports.

The 18-year-old Romania U21 international has courted the attention of top sides but the club's outspoken president has publicly stated he will not be selling any teenage stars.

Finally, The Athletic has thrown another striker into the mix for Arsenal by stating the Gunners have joined West Ham in eyeing New York City's Valentin Castellanos.

The £15m-rated Argentine striker has caught the eye in MLS, laying on eight assists, and West Ham were attributed with an interest last month, as were Turkish outfit Besiktas.
