With both Jack Wilshere and Wojciech Szczesny able to walk without any crutches or major problems away from the Emirates Stadium last weekend, Arsenal are hopeful that there are no long term injury concerns. Both players came off in discomfort during the defeat to Manchester United and are being assessed.
Neither is expected to play a part in the Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night, with Arsène Wenger expected to give a timescale for their return at Tuesday’s press conference.
Olivier Giroud is another who won’t play any part against Dortmund. Despite making a scoring return to the team, he was not included in Arsenal’s Champions League squad on the basis that he was expected to miss most - if not all - of the group games as he recovered from a fractured foot. The club are allowed to register up to three extra eligible players to their Champions League roster if they qualify to the knock out stages.
Arsenal need one more point to go through from their last two games, at home to Jürgen Klopp’s team and finally away to Galatasaray in Istanbul. Borussia Dortmund have won all four of their matches so far and top Group D.
