Daniel Ek: Arsenal supporters’ trust backs takeover talks

The Arsenal Supporters’ Trust has expressed its support for takeover talks that reportedly involve Spotify’s billionaire founder and CEO Daniel Ek and three former Gunners.

Arsenal fans last week protestedStan Kroenke’s ownership of the Premier League club following news of the north London side’s involvement in the planned European Super League.

That competition collapsed in a matter of days as the six English clubs involved withdrew amid immense pressure from supporters, players, coaches and pundits all around the world.

The fallout has continued, however, with many Arsenal fans keen to see American Kroenke sell the club, and The Telegraph reported on Monday that Spotify founder and CEO Ek is teaming up with former Gunners Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira with the hopes of pulling off a takeover.

“As a kid growing up, I’ve cheered for @Arsenal as long as I can remember. If KSE would like to sell Arsenal I’d be happy to throw my hat in the ring,” Ek tweeted on Friday.

The Arsenal Supporters’ Trust said that same evening that they “will support any potential purchaser who will allow fans to own a real equity stake and give fans a meaningful say in how our club is run”.

Kroenke’s son Josh, who is a non-executive director at Arsenal, said on Thursday that the club is not for sale, however.
