Arsenal supporters can't believe what Unai Emery has done to Mesut Ozil vs Standard Liege

Unai Emery's decision to leave Mesut Ozil out of his matchday squad for tonight's Europa League clash against Standard Liege has prompted a big reaction from Arsenal supporters.

The former Germany international has endured a stop-start campaign thus far.

He made his first start of the season against Watford following the September international break but was left out against Eintracht Frankfurt a few days later.

Furthermore, he was an unused substitute when the Gunners came from behind to beat Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium late last month.

Upon Ozil's return to the starting line-up he didn't manage to complete the full 90 minutes in a Carabao Cup tie at home to Nottingham Forest last week.

Left out completely against Manchester United on Monday night, Emery's reasoning was simple and straight to the point: "He is not here today," he told reporters.

"Today I decided the first eleven and the squad."

Many Gunners fans would have assumed that Ozil was being held back for Europa League action tonight, but that hasn't proven to be the case with the 30-year-old not in the 18-man squad.

Football.london understands that the decision is simply down to Emery's team selection and there has not been a falling out between the pair.

With that said, Emery continuing to freeze out Ozil has got Arsenal fans talking on social media.
