Mikel Arteta has confirmed William Saliba is a major doubt for Arsenal’s clash against Brentford.
Saliba was left out of the Arsenal squad for their trip to Chelsea on Sunday after picking up a knock in training the day before.
Arsenal are next in action on Wednesday night, when they host Brentford, and Arteta has given an update on Saliba.
Speaking on Tuesday morning, he said: “I am not going to be able to help you much today, because we have another training session later and, until that happens, we won’t know what is going to happen with a few of the doubts we have.
“He had a little niggle, but I think it is going to be a matter of days. So, let’s see if he is able to do that tomorrow.
“The ankle one (the injury Saliba had in August) was a really random one, a very unlucky action that kept him out for a few weeks. He tried at Anfield and he wasn’t comfortable, and he had to stay away. And this one as well is very bizarre, but hopefully it will be a matter of days.”
Arsenal were also without Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard for their draw with Chelsea due to injury.
Havertz has not played since the very first game of the season after injuring his knee and undergoing surgery.
Trossard picked up a calf injury against Bayern Munich last week, when he had to subbed in the first half.
Arteta added that the Belgium international is in the same boat as Saliba, but revealed the latest on Havertz: “A matter of weeks. Let’s see how he evolves in the next few weeks.
“He is doing really well, he is doing stuff on the pitch, but I think he needs some time.”
