Arsenal striker target considering shock transfer u-turn amid summer links

Arsenal target Odsonne Edouard is reportedly considering staying at Celtic despite having previously been in advanced negotiations with Leicester City.

The Frenchman was signed by Celtic for £8million from PSG three years ago after an initial loan spell and he has enjoyed a productive time in Glasgow, registering 83 goals and 37 assists in 168 games for the Scottish giants.

Edouard has won three SPL titles, two Scottish Cups and two Scottish League Cups but is reportedly ready for a fresh challenge with a move to the Premier League touted.

The 23-year-old has just one year left on his current deal at Celtic Park and The Daily Record reported in May that Arsenal are interested in signing him if Alexandre Lacazette were to leave the Emirates this summer.

Leicester City had appeared to be on the verge of signing Edouard but a deal has stalled and the Foxes have reportedly moved their attention to RB Salzburg striker Patson Daka instead, as Edouard is considering fulfilling his contract at Celtic and then leaving on a free next summer, according to The Daily Mail.

With Lacazette potentially leaving next summer when his contract expires it makes sense that Arsenal would replace him with Edouard on a free deal, something Thierry Henry would back, according to Scottish legend Ally McCoist.

“I spoke to Thierry Henry at the Liverpool vs Leicester City game and he really rates Edouard", McCoist said last year.

“He was saying in France in particular [Edouard is admired] and he personally really, really thinks he’s got a chance of going right to the top.”

It would be a shrewd piece of business for Arsenal to add the young striker on a free next summer to provide competition to the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Folarin Balogun and Gabriel Martinelli.
