Arsenal striker Lacazette set for swift return from ankle injury

Arsenal’s medical staff are due to assess Alexandre Lacazette over the next few days after he twisted his ankle during Sunday's 2-1 defeat to Lyon.

The Frenchman is a serious doubt for Wednesday’s friendly against Angers, but Arsenal hope he will not be away from training for too long.

Lacazette left Emirates Stadium in a protective boot on Sunday but, asked when he’d back back training, he replied: “Soon.”

Pushed if that meant one or two weeks out, the striker said: “No, before [that].”

Head coach Unai Emery was upbeat on the Frenchman’s fitness too as initial checks suggested it was not serious, but Arsenal will know more in the coming days.

"We are thinking it's not important, he decided with the doctor and with me that it is better to take no more risk,” Emery said in post-match press conference.

The Gunners face Angers then Barcelona before beginning their Premier League campaign away at Newcastle on August 11.
