Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun takes drastic step amid major USMNT decision

Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun has decided to confirm his allegiance to the USMNT following FIFA's approval of the switch. The striker is eligible to feature for Anthony Hudson's side after being born in New York.

Balogun, 21, has featured four times for the United States at youth level, scoring two goals against Bulgaria and Czech Republic in August 2018. Since then, he has been a regular in the England youth set-up - including seven goals in 13 for the under-21s - and was due to feature in next month's European Championships.

Ahead of next month's international schedule, FIFA have approved the U.S Soccer Federation's request to change the striker's national eligibility from England. He could now be in contention to make his bow in June's Nations League semi-final against Mexico on June 15.

The decision comes after months of speculation surrounding his future on the international stage. Balogun spent time across the pond during March's international break in Orlando, sparking excitement amongst supporters in the United States.

Meanwhile, Balogun's Instagram account has been stripped of all its posts and images. It's not entirely sure if the account changes were made prior to the decision to represent the USMNT, though.

Balogun removed images of him in action for Stade Reims and in Orlando, whilst also taking down his profile picture.
