Arsenal striker Eddie Nketiah lined up for loan move to Championship side

Arsenal manager Unai Emery is prepared to let young striker Eddie Nketiah go on loan for the season so the England U21 striker can continue his development.

Nketiah has made eight senior appearances for the Gunners, playing five times in the Premier League last season and getting on the scoresheet in a 3-1 win over Burnley at Turf Moor.

But with the likes of Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alex Iwobi all ahead of him in the pecking order in the Arsenal first-team he is unlikely to start many games next season, and thus Emery is willing to let him go temporarily.

Newly-promoted Charlton Athletic appear to be the most likely destination for Nketiah at the moment.

The Addicks beat Sunderland 2-1 in the League One playoff final to seal their place in the Championship next season, and Charlton and Arsenal have done business together in the past, with Krystian Bielik's loan spell during the last campaign considered a huge success.

Charlton may have to act quickly, however, as it is likely a whole host of other Championship clubs will be interested in the player, or alternatively he could end up going abroad.

Nketiah has represented England from U18 to U21 level and has a good scoring record at each stage, netting nine goals in 10 appearances for the U19s and six in nine caps for the U20s.

Charlton recently appeared a club in turmoil after promotion-winning manager Lee Bowyer appeared to be leaving the club.

A statement released by their owner Roland Duchatelet said they had failed to come to an agreement over a one year contract extension for Bowyer.

But within just hours Bowyer completed a remarkable U-turn to agree a deal to take charge of the Addicks for at least the duration of next season.

The addition of Nketiah would no doubt give him optimism going into a crucial transfer window.
