Arsenal starting XI confirmed vs Newcastle: Koscielny, Xhaka out, Aubameyang benched

Granit Xhaka and Laurent Koscielny have been ruled out for Arsenal in their Premier League clash against Newcastle United at the Emirates Stadium whilst Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is only fit enough to make the bench.

football.london understands that Xhaka is missing due to the groin injury he picked up whilst away with Switzerland, Koscielny is unavailable due to a bruised left foot and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has a temperature.

In the latter's absence Emery has switched to a 3-4-3, with Alex Iwobi and Mesut Ozil playing behind Alexandre Lacazette.

Xhaka and Aaron Ramsey were both injury doubts after picking up problems during the international break. The latter, who had tightness in his left thigh, was always expected to be available for the visit of Arsenal.

Mesut Ozil hasn't had to change anything to convince Unai Emery of his value to Arsenal

It was Xhaka, however, who was the greater cause for concern after he was forced to limp out of Switzerland's draw with Denmark, a match they had been leading 3-0 when he asked to be substituted. The 26-year-old was due to face a late fitness test and was not pictured in training on Sunday.

Nacho Monreal had missed the first-team's trip to Dubai during the international break with a calf issue but he has recovered.

Lucas Torreira is still serving the remainder of the three game ban he picked up against Tottenham last month whilst Hector Bellerin, Rob Holding and Danny Welbeck are long-term absentees.

Arsenal XI: Leno; Sokratis, Koscielny, Monreal; Maitland-Niles, Xhaka, Ramsey, Kolasinac; Ozil; Lacazette, Aubameyang

Subs: Cech, Elneny, Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang, Suarez, Jenkinon, Nketiah
