Arsenal starlet Trae Coyle joins Zech Medley in completing Gillingham loan switch

Gillingham have secured the loan signing of a second highly-rated Arsenal youngster in Trae Coyle.

The 19-year-old forward will spend the duration of the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Priestfield Stadium, joining a familiar face from the Gunners' youth team ranks.

Earlier this week, League One Gillingham secured a similar season-long deal for Arsenal centre-back Zech Medley.

Coyle joined his new team-mates in training on Thursday, with Gillingham revealing in their statement to confirm that latest arrival that manager Steve Evans had been in talks with Arsenal counterpart Mikel Arteta throughout the summer.

"I’m delighted to be here; it’s a big step for me," said Coyle. "I'm getting to the age where I need to play men's football and I think this is a great place for me to have my first spell.

"I'm very excited, I can't wait to get started. I'm a creative player who likes to make chances and get on the ball."

Meanwhile, Evans was delighted that Gillingham were able to see off competition from a number of teams across the continent in order to land England youth international Coyle.

"Trae is a very exciting young talent and he is ready to further his football education," he said.

“He is very highly thought of at Arsenal and his performances have made him a sought after loan player.

“Trae has a lot to learn, his development we are entrusted with but, in reality, his attitude and work rate will determine his success at League One level because he is a very very talented boy.

"He had a vast choice of clubs here in England, Holland and Germany so we are delighted to get the lad here."
