Arsenal starlet Eddie Nketiah eyeing Leeds chance after 'disappointing' start to season

Eddie Nketiah hopes his hat-trick for England's rampant Young Lions has earned him more scope to wreak havoc on loan at Leeds.

Bizarrely, the Arsenal striker has yet to start a league game for Marcelo Bielsa's side in the Championship – even though he is joint top scorer at Elland Road.

But a hat-trick for England's Under-21s in the 5-1 demolition of Austria might give Bielsa tap on the shoulder, if not a slap in the chops, to remind him of Nketiah's exciting potential.

Leeds have slipped to fifth in the promotion stampede for Premier League riches, and 20-year-old Nketiah – who has scored six goals in his last four international appearances – admitted: “It's been disappointing for me not to start in the League. I went there to play games, but this was a good statement.

“I probably haven't been given the chances I would have liked – I would have liked to play a lot more minutes.

“But I feel like every time I've come on I've done well and I'm still the top scorer in the team. With such limited time, I don't think I could have done much more.

“I'm never going to be totally happy if I'm not playing because I'm a proud player and I believe I should be playing.

“But it's a great club with great fans and, once I get the opportunity to show why I should be playing week in, week out, I'll kick on and enjoy it even more.”

Boosted by messages of support from Arsenal legend Ian Wright and Gunners top scorer Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nketiah praised Leeds boss Bielsa's coaching methods.

But now he wants the chance to put the fiery Argentine's ideas into practice, adding: “He is a good coach, he does a lot of one-to-one reviews about the games and (video) clips.

“I'm learning from him and I think I'll learn even more when I am playing and I can implement (his ideas).

“It's great to be at Leeds and I'm looking forward to the future – hopefully I can get the minutes I want and kick on from there.”
