Arsenal star Vivianne Miedema in line for new contract after breaking WSL scoring record in Tottenham rout

A new contract for Vivianne Miedema is top of Arsenal Women’s priorities, according to boss Joe Montemurro, after the striker became the WSL’s all-time top scorer with a hat-trick in Sunday's 6-1 win over Tottenham.

Miedema took her tally to 52 goals in 50 league appearances for the Gunners, surpassing the previous WSL record-holder, Nikita Parris, who scored 49 times.

The 24-year-old is believed to have a contract until the end of next season and Montemurro is hoping the club can agree a long-term deal with her next month.

“I’d love to discuss contractual things and players coming in and staying and so on,” said the Australian. “It’s something we’ll start to do early in November.

“Viv will be on top of that list and we’ll do everything we can to make sure she remains.”

Arsenal maintained their 100 per cent start to the season to move two points clear at the top of the WSL, while Spurs have picked up just one point from their opening five matches.
