Rob Holding has revealed how Ian Wright played a part in Arsenal winning the FA Cup final against Chelsea at Wembley.
The Gunners lifted their 14th cup after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s double guided them to a 2-1 win, and saw Mikel Arteta lift his first piece of silverware as manager.
The Blues took an early lead through Christian Pulisic before Aubameyang pulled his side back level from the spot after being brought down by Cesar Azpilicueta in the penalty area.
The Gabon international made it two with a superb finish in the second half, with Mateo Kovacic controversially seeing red for a second booking soon after for Chelsea as Arsenal ended a disappointing season on a high.
Despite Wembley being empty, the Gunners did have one very vocal supporter in attendance.
Arsenal legend Wright was watching on as part of his punditry duties with the BBC and, as Holding revealed after the final, he couldn’t help but get involved.
“In the first half I was in the bottom corner and I could hear someone going ‘tackle, tackle, tackle!’” Holding said.
“I looked up and saw it was Wrighty!”
On the game and coming from behind, Holding added: “No panic, there was still plenty of time in the game, but it wasn’t the way we’d planned on starting it, they just caught us a bit flat-footed, and it took us a bit to get used to how they were playing.
“Once we got it settled, we grew into the first half and had the better of it.
“Then we’ve got Auba on the break, he seems to do it every game. He’s our talisman and he’s led us through the season.
“Fourteen’s crazy, it’s my second in four years. When I joined, I would have taken that straight away.”
