Arsenal star returns to national team training ahead of crunch Euro 2020 showdown

Scotland have been handed a considerable fitness boost ahead of their clash with England after Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney returned to training.

The Gunners’ left-back missed his nation’s opening match of the tournament against the Czech Republic due to a minor problem.

There were question marks remaining over the Arsenal man’s fitness heading into this weekend’s crunch clash with England at Wembley Stadium.

However, those fears appear to have been allayed with a video from Sky Sports showing the former Celtic defender back in training.

The group of players appeared to be those who did not start the match against the Czech Republic but the fact that Tierney is back in action remains a positive for Scotland - and of course Arsenal.

His potential return will of course be a huge boost with Scotland having struggled in their 2-0 defeat on Monday, with Patrik Schick netting a brace at Hampden Park - the second being a spectacular lob from distance.

After the game, Scotland boss Steve Clarke admitted that the absence of Tierney disrupted his pre-match preparations.

He said: "Obviously we've done a lot of work with team shape and Kieran was involved in that, so with 48 hours to go when he picks up the little niggle that kept him out, it does take a little bit of changing. It changes the dynamic of the team.

"Kieran has been an integral part of how we've played recently but I don't think we defended too badly. I think the moments in the game that got away from us, the first one is preventable and the second is really good.”

Meanwhile, after fielding questions concerning the fitness of Tierney, he admitted that the defender could be fit in time to face England in the second group game of the tournament.

"He's got a chance, we'll work on him over the next few days but he's got a chance to be fit for Friday,” Clarke continued.

More on Tierney's fitness is expected during Scotland's pre-match press conference later today.
