Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang questions motives of Tottenham fan who threw banana onto pitch

Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has responded to Sunday's banana-throwing incident after a Tottenham fan was arrested.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has reacted after a banana skin was thrown at him during the north London derby win over Tottenham.

The Gunners striker was celebrating his opening goal in front of the travelling supporters when, amongst other objects, the skin was thrown onto the pitch.

The Gabon international has taken to Instagram, posting a picture of the banana skin on the playing surface in front of him, captioned simply: “#whysmandoingthis”.

A Tottenham fan was arrested on Sunday and questioned on Monday after being identified as the supporter to throw the skin.

Tottenham said the fan will be banned at least until the outcome of the police investigation while football’s leading anti-discrimination body, Kick it Out, called for a lifetime ban after the seemingly racially motivated incident.

“Our latest reporting figures show incidents of racism are on the rise and the banana throwing at #NLD should be seen in that context,” their statement read. “We condemn this action and welcome the police investigation — the person who did this should be banned from football for life.”
