Arsenal star Mesut Ozil booed off by home crowd as Man City fans taunt Gunners ace

It was not an afternoon to remember for Arsenal and Mesut Ozil as the Gunners faced Manchester City in the Premier League.

The Gunners hosted Pep Guardiola's men at the Emirates Stadium, with the visitors scoring three unanswered goals in the first half as they outclassed Arsenal in north London.

Freddie Ljungberg's men barely tested Ederson in the Manchester City goal in the first half, with Kevin De Bruyne scoring twice and Raheem Sterling also on target for the visitors as they opened up a 3-0 advantage at the break.

In the second half, Ozil was substituted early on by Arsenal's interim head coach Freddie Ljungberg, with the German midfielder reacting angrily as he slowly made his way off amid an audible chorus of boos from the crowd.

As football.london senior writer James Benge noted on social media, the boos grew louder as he made his way off at a leisurely pace, with Ozil then seen kicking the turf and taking off his gloves as he reacted angrily, brushing past the hands of Ljungberg and his assistant Per Mertesacker.

And while that was occurring, Manchester City fans were quick to mock the Gunners star, with the visiting supporters chanting in his direction as they compared him unfavourably to City star David Silva.

Ozil was replaced by Emile Smith Rowe as Arsenal continued to struggle against the Premier League champions.
