Arsenal star Lucas Torreira has message for Bruno Fernandes ahead of Manchester United move

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira says imminent Manchester United signing Bruno Fernandes should have no problem in adapting to the Premier League.

The pair played together at Italian side Sampdoria – and they are now set to become rivals in the Premier League.

Ahead of last night’s Carabao Cup semi final second leg against Manchester City, United announced they had come to an agreement with Sporting Lisbon over the transfer of Fernandes, who will cost them an initial £46.6 million – with upwards of £20 million in add-on clauses.

United went on to beat City 1-0 at the Etihad, but it wasn’t enough to overturn their first-leg deficit as Pep Guardiola’s side marched on to a third straight final.

Attentions for United will now turn back to the Premier League – with a new arrival on the horizon.

On former team-mate Fernandes, Arsenal ace Torreira told Sky Sports: “I really hope he adapts quickly, particularly as the Premier League is so physical and intense.

“I’m sure he has the right mentality to adapt quickly. Obviously he’s joining a big club in Manchester United so I hope he enjoys the move.”

Fernandes, who has scored 15 goals and laid on 14 assists for Sporting already this season, has been a long-term target for United, who welcome Wolves to Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Speaking ahead of the second leg against City, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said: “I’m delighted that we've agreed with Sporting.

“There have been good negotiations with the club and we know through history, these two clubs have been good with each other.

“Now we’ve reached that agreement, hopefully we can get the boy’s contract over the line and the medical done and then, hopefully we can announce it.”
